About

Brand Story

Gaida Guild’s work is inspired by the visual language of Hellenism. Shaped over millennia and across empires, it finds  its most vivid expressions in folk art, where recurring motifs created continuity across generations. These motifs carry history and memory, and remain timeless in their beauty.

Craft & Production

Every design begins with a historic textile or folk pattern, carefully studied and translated into print.

Our fabrics are hand printed in France at a historic, family-owned mill, recognized for its role in preserving the highest standards of textile printing. Premium European grounds are selected for their weight, hand, and performance.

From the Studio

For me, Gaida Guild is a deeply personal project: a tribute to my heritage, and to the experiences, places, and people that have shaped me. This brand reflects something intrinsic to who I am, what I love, and where I come from. My hope is that these textiles bring warmth, character, and a sense of history into the home.

Founder Bio

Sophia Phoutrides grew up in the Hudson Valley, New York. A diaspora kid, she spent her summers in northern Greece with her grandparents and extended family. Throughout her life, she has remained rooted there.

Her many returns have created an enduring sense of place and home.

Guided by her mother’s love of folk traditions, she developed a lifelong reverence for Greek craft. Out of this reverence, and that deep sense of place, Gaida Guild was born.

Today she lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband and three children, Greece remaining a constant anchor in her life.
